How should I photograph a stamp for identification?
Place one stamp on a plain background in even light. Hold the iPhone straight above it, focus carefully and include the full perforations. Avoid glare, shadows and filters.
Can StampSnap guarantee a stamp's value?
No. The app provides an estimated value insight, not a professional appraisal or guaranteed sale price. Watermark, perforation, gum, repairs, authenticity, condition and buyer demand may require physical inspection.
What should I do if the app cannot identify my stamp?
Retake the photo in better light and make sure the complete stamp is visible. Do not clean it. Then compare the inscription, currency, portrait, watermark and perforations with a specialist catalogue or ask a reputable philatelic expert.
When do I need professional authentication?
Seek a recognized expertizing service, auction house or specialist dealer when a stamp appears rare, has a potentially high value, may have an altered overprint or is being insured or sold for a significant amount.
